PROJECT DESCRIPTION

  • Design Intent: Design a Passageway connecting 42nd and 43rd street creating a multi-functions space that could be used by street artist or performers, tourist looking to escape the hectic activities of Time Square or local professionals taking a lunch break.
  • Location:  New York, NY
  • Completed 2010
  • Size: 1,400 SF
  • Public Space
  • Description: The project is envisioned as a flexible space which is an extension of both One Bryant Park tower and the Stephen Sondheim theater’s materiality.  However, the passage takes on a life of it’s own with an elevated performance area, theatrical rigging for lighting and a solid back drop for video performances and other digital artistic explorations.  The theater’s back stage door opens directly into the passage and there are designated areas for displaying the rich historic story of the original theater dating back to 1939 with in the passage as well.
